Volunteer nominations being received
Peninsula residents are being asked to nominate volunteers for the Premiers Awards for Active Citizenship, being made as part of the International Year of Volunteers 2001.
Gosford Councils community development worker Shirley Hotchkiss said: "Much voluntary work is done by Peninsula residents to assist the community to work well.
"The Premiers Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and highlight the significance of this work.
"In particular, these awards provide us with the chance to demonstrate to the wider community the contribution made by Peninsula volunteers."
She said the diversity of voluntary work done on the Peninsula in caring for people, the environment, and wildlife vastly improves our quality of life.
"Volunteers coach netball, collect rubbish, shop for housebound people, share their expertise with government bodies, advocate for the disabled and listen to those in trauma."
Premiers Awards recipients will be selected according to whether they have made an innovative or outstanding contribution to their community, or set an example that inspires, motivates or involves others in voluntary community activity.
A maximum of two awards will be made in each NSW Local Government Area.
Nominations close Friday, August 17.
Nominations should include the name and contact details of both sender and nominee.
They should include a statement of less than 500 words on why the person is being nominated, use a separate page if nominating more than one person.
Phone Shirley Hotchkiss with enquiries on 4325 8904, or send written nominations to her at Community Development, Gosford City Council, PO Box 21, Gosford NSW 2250 or fax 4325 8870.
