Artist profile: Ian Davis
Ian is a surrealist, conceptual, three-dimensional sculptural formic, selective portraiture, ichthylogical illustrative (draws fish), digital imaging and animation artist.
His decision to engage in a fine arts degree was taken as a means to explore the future direction he would take as a professional practising artist.
Little did he know that he would exit the university working in the entirely different field of computer graphics, compared to the painting skills with which he entered.
So far his bread and butter work is in photo retouching and repair.
"This is highly satisfying as you can salvage for people the visual memories that previously may have been close to unrecognisable due to age and damage," he said.
As well electronic digital work, Ian is also working on a large canvas describing an event from World War 1.
"It's a simple depiction of the institutionalised resistance to change that cost so many lives and opportunities for a rapid conclusion to hostilities, not unlike current corporate structure," he said.
Ian has exhibited at the Ourimbah Open Exhibition 1997, "?" Group Show Terrigal 1998, "Paradigm" University of Newcastle graduate exhibition 1999, and "Four Friends" group show at Avoca Fine Arts Gallery 2000.
Ian lives at Daleys Point and has his studio at Bensville. He can be contacted 4368 2624.
