Walk from Woy Woy

The recent National Parks Association walk from Woy Woy to Daleys Point and Blackwall Mountain attracted 14 members, led by Iris Quanchie.

After meeting at the Memorial Park, Woy Woy, they walked along the Woy Woy waterfront past the pelican rookery and the swamp mahoganies, the feed trees of the endangered swift parrot and regent honeyeater.

Then the walk took them up Orange Grove Rd and under the Rip Bridge to Governor Phillip Memorial Park, then across to Daleys Point Recreational Reserve, where they saw aboriginal engravings on the flat rocks and had extensive views of Brisbane Water to Gosford.

They returned over the Rip Bridge and climbed up Blackwall Mountain where they lunched at the lookout with views to Pittwater and the Hawkesbury River.

There were sacred ibis and an eastern curlew feeding on the low tide flats on their return via the waterfront.

The 16 kilometre walk at a comfortable pace took five hours.

On Saturday, August 25, the association will walk in Brisbane Water National Park, from Kariong to Koolewong Ridge, with great views and wildflowers expected.

Prospective members are welcome. Phone 4341 2482 for details.
