Keno win has side-effects

A million dollar Keno win at Umina Beach Bowling Club has had an unexpected side-effect for the club.

"This win has given the club some great publicity," said secretary-manager Mr David Galea.

This has included features in local papers, interviews on radio and stories published in industry journals such as Club Life.

Mr Galea described it as "fantastic exposure for our wonderful club".

The win in the 10-spot category of Keno resulted in one of the club's punters winning $1,073,292 from a $1 ticket.

The winning ticket was sold by a long-standing staff member, Mr Bede Allen.

Mr Galea said Mr Allen was "finding himself a lot busier at our keno terminals these days".

"It seems the superstitious punters out there are requesting that Bede put their tickets on for them with the hope that his 'lucky touch' might rub off on their tickets to recapitulate the good fortune he has already passed on to one lucky winner," he said.

The lucky numbers that came up on this winning occasion were 11, 13, 16, 20, 28, 29, 34, 45, 47 and 48.
