Foreshore is fenced off

Erosion behind the seawall at Ettalong has prompted Gosford Council to fence off the foreshore, while remedial action is planned.

Local residents have spoken out about the decision, saying the fence prevents access to the water and detracts from their enjoyment of the seafront.

"It's outrageous," said local resident Jean-Pierre Zacjac.

"You go to places like Airlie Beach and they are trying to open up the shoreline to tourists, as they do everywhere else in Australia."

A Gosford Council officer said: "The fence was erected due to erosion behind the seawall.

"There are large holes and some areas are badly undermined so it has become a risk management issue.

"Signs are about to be erected indicating the risk and council is currently determining the best way to repair the problem."
