Historian wins painting

Peninsula historian Joan Fenton of Woy Woy has won an Aboriginal painting in a raffle.

The painting was called "Bush Potato Dreaming", and was painted by Rachel Rankine Nangale.

The raffle was part of a fundraising project by Gibarlee, the Aboriginal Education Unit of Newcastle University at Ourimbah Campus.

It was drawn at the second of a series of fundraising dinners held on August 7 at Preview Restaurant, the Ourimbah Campus training restaurant.

Dinner patrons were entertained by the Djuigang dancers, who performed traditional and contemporary music and dance.

Gibarlee is raising funds to send two Indigenous students to the World Indigenous People’s Conference in Calgary, Canada, in August 2002.
