Library service fo commuters continues

Gosford Council has decided to continue its library’s Book Express service to Woy Woy rail commuters.

Mayor Cr Chris Holstein said the Book Express had previously been on trial but Council had resolved to make the service permanent for four days per week.

"The Book Express has been a great success and very well patronised," said Cr Holstein.

To thank commuters for their support, pre-packed biscuits and thank you notes were distributed from the Book Express on Thursday, July 26, at Woy Woy station from 5.30am to 8am.

"The Book Express is the first of its kind anywhere in the country, possibly the world, and it regularly lends up to 100 items each day.

"Approximately 10,000 people commute to Sydney by train each day, departing mainly from Gosford and Woy Woy stations.

"We introduced this service as commuters often have difficulty getting to a branch library due to their work hours and travel commitments.

"Borrowers can select from a range of popular fiction paperbacks covering genres such as mystery, general, romance, science fiction and western.

"The library is now investigating expanding the range of books to include some non-fiction items and classics," said Cr Holstein.

The Book Express operates from 5.30am to 8am at Woy Woy Station Tuesday and Thursdays, and at Gosford Station Wednesdays and Fridays.
