Under-11s win rugby match

Woy Woy Under-11 Division 3 team played Saint Edwards in round 11 of junior rugby league competition.

On a previous occasion, Woy Woy had defeated St Edwards, fielding only nine players, with scores 61-13.

After a slow start, the Under-11s rallied in the second half and the return of Chris Blair helped the team to a 21-13 victory.

Shawn Nelson proved to be a valuable asset with Dylan Smith, Max Perkins and Mitch Bolton also going well.

Max Perkins scored two tries and Shawn Nelson, Kurt Wilkins and Chris Blair each scored one, and goals went to Kurt Pride and Chris Blair.

Round 12 was against fourth-placed Ourimbah who proved to be the better team and the Under-11s lost 15-8.

The team never gave up however, with Riley Vanderpoel and Max Perkins playing strongly and Drew Stevenson showing he is a punishing defender with some great tackles.

Max Perkins scored two tries and Chris Blair scored a goal.

Round 13 against The Entrance was a close game, with the Under-11s winning 19-16.

Hard work at training paid off and more experienced players like Shawn Nelson and Mitch Bolton, led the way in encouraging the team to victory.

Tries went to Mitch Bolton, Chris Blair and Daniel Tailby, with goals scored by Shawn Nelson, James Titmus and Chris Blair.

The washed-out game from round 6 was replayed recently against a strong Berkley Vale side.

A much-improved defense ensured that the try line was never crossed and led to a win of 11-7.

Good work by half-back Daniel Tailby and the forwards helped win the game for the Under-11s. Ben Rosier and Daniel Tailby played well all day and tries went to Shawn Nelson, Max Perkins and Chris Blair.

The team was led by Shawn Nelson with Dylan Smith, Chris Blair and Mitch Bolton spearheading the forwards through the defence

The Under-11s are placed equal second with Northern Lakes and will face them in Round 13. Hard games are expected against first placed Wyong, Umina and Berkley Vale and Kincumber.

Coach Shane Wilson thanked Dave Maryska who came to give the team a hand with their defence.

He said that the junior players were excited and proud to have been coached by a senior club player.
