The Peninsula since Federation

As part of our regular history section and in recognition of 2001 being the centenary of federation in Australia, Peninsula News reporter, Jonathan Reichard, has selected stories from August in the second year of several decades over the last 100 years as recorded by local newspapers.

State Minister for Health Mr Kelvin Stewart wrote to the Gosford Combined Progress Association saying he recognised the need for a Woy Woy District Hospital casualty section.

The letter said the Minister recognised the needs of the hospital.

However no funds were available to improve the casualty section.

"It is the first time the Minister has recognised our needs and we believe it is a turning point," association spokesman Mr Horries Weston said.

"We are now going to swing our attack to the Federal Minister for Health and we will be telling him that State Government recognises our needs but requires an injection of funds from the Federal Governmnet to do something about it."
