Rebecca wins karate placings

Woy Woy resident Rebecca Fenton, 25, has achieved a personal best at the Sydney All Styles Karate Cup in Liverpool.

The Black Belt Karate Studios student, who has trained under Elizabeth Mahler for over three years, came second in the coloured-belt sparring and fourth in the coloured-belt kata (forms) on Sunday, March 2.

Mahler was impressed by her student's performance.

"Rebecca had a great day on Sunday," she said.

"She went to Liverpool with confidence, and it showed in her performance on the day.

"I was so excited by my performance," Rebecca said.

"I went in the same tournament last year and came third in sparring and didn't rank in kata.

"This time, I had more training and experience, and I performed really well."

Rebecca was beaten in the final by fellow Black Belt Karate Studios student Angela Jones.

"It was strange but fun to come up against Angie in my last fight," Rebecca said.

"We're both going in a tournament in Port Macquarie next week.

"So we'll have to see who wins next time."

Rebecca was the oldest of a team of six Black Belt Karate Studios students - all female, the youngest 11 years old - representing the Central Coast in the Sydney All Styles Karate Cup.

The team won two gold medals and five silver medals.
