Furniture dumped after Clean Up Day

Furniture has been dumped in Hillview St adjacent to the Burrawang Bushland Reserve within 24 hours of Clean-Up Australia Day, according to the reserve's Clean Up coordinator Mr Jim Morrison.

"I am disappointed with this latest dumping, particularly given the publicity given to Clean Up Australia Day and the close proximity of the Woy Woy landfill."

Gosford Council rangers were investigating the incident, he said.

Mr Morrison said that rangers had been successful in detecting an earlier offender.

He was hopeful of success on this occasion.

The Burrawang Bushland Reserve bush care group hosted the Clean Up Australia Day project on Sunday, March 2.

A handful of local residents gave up part of their day to take part in "a very successful clean up", said Mr Morrison.

"The major component of the rubbish collected was illegally dumped household items that included furniture, computer and television equipment," he said.

Mr Morrison said the Council operated a reward scheme for information leading to the conviction of illegal dumpers.

Anyone observing people dumping rubbish in the reserve should contact the rangers on 4325 8439 or a member of the reserve committee on 4341 9301.
