Dorothy wins Order of Australia
Mrs Dorothy Chamberlain of Umina has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal in the recent Australia Day Honours.
The award was for service to the community, particularly through the Central Coast Family History Society Inc.
Mrs Chamberlain has been involved in local and family history on the Central Coast for over 20 years.
She has contributed to the Central Coast Family History Society Inc, as a member of the founding committee in 1981, as a life member, as treasurer, as research officer and as editor of the society's journal "The Muster".
She has participated in Brisbane Water Historical Society, as a volunteer and occasional secretary and research officer, as well as various duties at the Henry Kendall Cottage Museum.
She has worked at Gosford City Library, as a family history volunteer, for 15 years and as a member of the Local History Study Group.
She has also researched, written and published two history books entitled Button Up Australia, and Sidney Herbert's Needle Women.
She is also treasurer and secretary of Ettalong Indoor Bowls Club.
