Young people call motorbike meeting

A public meeting will be held at the Peninsula Community Centre at 6pm on March 5 for people interested in establishing local facilities for motorbike riding.

The meeting has been convened by a group of young people who attend the Web Youth Service at the centre.

"Facilities for motor bike riders on the Central Coast have been closed down," said 15-year-old group spokesman Daniel Jeffrey.

"It's a great family sport that many children, young adults and adults have been enjoying for years.

"With no place to ride, the hopes of many have been destroyed."

Harry's Track at Wyee had closed, as had Somerset Park at Somersby.

"We are a group of riders who are responsible people who will not resort to riding in places that are illegal or environmentally-sensitive," said Daniel.

"But where can we ride?

"We believe that there are two places that can be made into a facility that would be appropriate.

"The first place is Bull's Hill Quarry.

"It is out of the way of populated areas and therefore no noise would disturb the public.

"The second place is the Woy Woy Tip."

Daniel said the Central Coast prided itself in its sports facilities.

"We need a place to be as well."

Daniel said the group was seeking community support.

It had recently written to Gosford Council seeking its support.

The group requested that a motocross track should be included in the Peninsula Open Space contributions plan and seeking the council's support.

The request, signed by eight young people, was published in the Council's business paper last week as a petition.

For further information, group members may be contacted at the Web youth service on 4342 3684 or Daniel may be contacted on 0409 369 859.
