Much in common
Further to Vincent Serventy's letter (Facts about Dogs, Peninsula News), it seems to me dogs share much in common with human beings.
They are hunters, scavengers and are monogamous.
Since the time dogs decided to share their lot with man for a steadier meal source, they have provided assistance with shepherding, guarding and hunting.
Man ever more resourceful, extended their duties to war, drugs, arson, police, guidance etc.
But of course, their most vital assistance is in companionship, affection and a general rapport with man.
Not to mention the thousands of lives they have saved.
