Appeal has $70,000 target
The Salvation Army aims to raise more than $69,876 on the Peninsula in its Red Sheild Appeal on May 26 and 27.
It is seeking more than 500 collectors and drivers from the Peninsula to knock on doors of 20,000 households on the Peninsula and nearby areas.
The Salvation Army's Central Coast spokesman Mr Rodney Dibley said: "In this Year of the Volunteer, the Salvation Army is calling on the community to show special support by volunteering to collect on doorknock weekend.
"Young people from high schools are an important part of the doorknock.
"Those under-18 can participate by making it a family day with family and friends," he said.
"This year we are encouraging people to form teams of four with a driver.
"Recruitment of collectors is vital to the success of the doorknock because without collectors we are simply unable to cover the ground," said Mr Dibley.
"Perhaps you can form a team with your neighbours, work mates, or uni friends.
"Its a great way to get to know your community while keeping fit," he said.
Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact the associate chairman for the Peninsula Red Shield Committee, Mr Garry Beitsch, or telephone the national hotline on 133 230.
