Rugby season starts
Woy Woy Rugby Clubs season started with the shield challenge rounds.
The club acquired some new and enthusiastic players during the off season.
Head coach John Stockie has treated the first couple of games as trials and said he has not been unduly worried by the results.
The clubs under-11s took on the Terrigal Trojans at Woy Woy Oval on Saturday, April 28.
This was the first game of rugby for the majority of the team.
Like any good team, they rose to the occasion with a good try to Zach Fell.
The two veterans of the team, Brodie "Wallaby" Hinder and Craig Sai-Louie, guided the players around the field.
They looked to have the upper hand on Terrigal but a couple of lapses in concentration saw Terrigal fight back with some attacking rugby.
With the referee about to signal full time, a quick dart from a scrum was made by the Woy Woy half and a try was in the offing.
The try was called back by the referee citing interference by one of the under-11 Woy Woy props.
One last throw of the dice and Joel Harnett crashed over for a try near the posts.
The Lion Cubs still trailed and needed the conversion for a draw as the referee called time.
The players and supporters held their breath.
A quick look at the post by Ryan Edward, then head down he kicked the ball straight and sure right over the black dot.
