Judo members in State squad

Eight members of the Woy Woy Judo Club have qualified for State Squad after competing in three selection tournaments held at Michael Wenden Centre, Liverpool, in February, March and April.

All eight competitors are in individual weight divisions with six in the under-16 year olds and one each in the young men’s and young women’s categories.

Each competitor had to place first, second and third in each tournament in order to qualify.

The players in the under-16s are Brendan Cole, Samantha Travers, Steven Arnold, Sean Cole, Daniel Simmons and Jessica Malone.

In the young men’s division, the player was Drew Evans and, in the young women's division, the player was Holly Smith.

Last year, four members qualified and competed at the national titles in Canberra. They were Steven Arnold, Daniels Simmons, Drew Evans and Jessica Malone.

Jessica won the gold medal in the over-70kg under-16 division and will defend her title this June long weekend when the Woy Woy club travels to Adelaide for the junior nationals.

These same members along with Thomas Dell and Edward Dittel will travel to Okayama, Japan, in the first week of the school holidays in July to compete in the Okayama friendly games.
