Gallantry alive and well

I wish to acknowledge the consideration and concern displayed towards two senior citizens at Ettalong Beach recently.

The senior citizens fell onto the roadway after losing their footing at the corner of Ocean Beach Rd and Karingi St, near the Senior Citizens' Centre.

The many passers-by who came to the couple’s assistance included two off-duty police officers, namely Senior Constable Aaron Gray of Blue Mountains Local Area Command and Senior Constable Michelle Gray of St Marys Local Area Command.

These off-duty police officers were visiting the Central Coast celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary and they happened to be in the vicinity of the Senior Citizens’ Centre when the accident occurred.

To all those kind people who assisted the couple, including Mrs Elinor Allan, former co-ordinator of the senior citizens' centres within Gosford Council and many others whose names I did not obtain, I would like to express my appreciation for their attentive care.

All of them remained with the couple until the arrival of ambulance officers.

The couple were then taken to hospital for medical attention and I understand that they have made a good recovery following their ordeal.

It is heartening to know that despite all the bad news we hear about where society is heading today that there are still many members of our community who are ready to go to the assistance of others in time of need.
