Rate proposal is 'extraordinary'

It is hard to understand how a further extraordinary increase can be sought from the Minister for Local Government.

The increase is said to be for roadworks, kerb and guttering etc.

Our present rates should be being used for these works.

I have lodged an objection with the State member.

Our rates should be decreasing, as rateable properties are increasing at a rapid pace.

Valuations are determined by the property market, which is too volatile to ever be used as an indicator of people’s ability to pay anyway.

This proposal is certainly extraordinary.
