Patisserie wins Show awards

Bremen Patisserie in Umina has won a first, two seconds and a third at the Royal Easter Show.

The Easter Show Awards were a first for a fruit flan, the seconds for a continental Vienna loaf and a sponge cake and a third prize for lamingtons.

The awards add to a long list of medals and awards won over the years in competitions around Australia.

This year alone, Bremen Patisserie has won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 2001 Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition which was held in conjunction with the Queensland Catering Trade Fair at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The competition attracts pie makers from around Australia.

"This year we entered six pies and they all won a medal," said proprietor Ron Bruns.

"Our gold medals were for our chunky beef, burgundy and mushroom gourmet pie; our lamb and curry gourmet pie; and our chicken and vegetable gourmet pie.

"Last year we also won the overall award for Australia's best gourmet beef pie, our highest accolade."

After having been a finalist for a number of years, this year Bremen Patisserie also won its category at the Central Coast Small Business Awards.

The patisserie has now been invited to represent the Central Coast in the Small Business Champion of Champions, competing against award winners from Sydney, the Greater West and Newcastle.

Ron attributes his success fresh, healthy products.

"We provide the freshest of products to our customers daily, baked on the premises by our qualified bakers and apprentice using fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and spices cooked with olive oil for a healthier product," he said.

Bremen Patisserie commenced trading at Umina in December 1989 and it was Ron's intention to introduce the continental tastes and textures of the world to the people of the Central Coast.

"We did this gradually and listened to our customers over the years, introducing more and more new products," said Mr Bruns.

Bremen Patisserie began entering competitions in 1997 and immediately won a silver medal for the "good old Aussie meat pie".
