High holds surf championships

Woy Woy High School recently held its annual surfing championships at Avoca Beach.

Organisers Mr Mark Cribb and Ms Kirrily Ogle said the sun was shining and competition was fierce in the one to 1.5 metre waves.

The championships were held in both surfboard and bodyboard divisions.

Each division then had heats, semi-finals and finals.

Jai Wright won the surfboard division beating Jarrod Fletcher in the final.

Dane Evans and Dean Simonson contested the semi-finals earlier.

In the bodyboard division, the final was taken out by Tyler Creese over Steven Lindfield.

Nathan Anderson and Cameron McEachern each reached the semi-final stage.

Mr Cribb and Ms Ogle thanked the school's P&C and STS Surfshop at Umina for sponsoring the event with money for trophies and prizes for competitors.
