Break-in at bowling club

Woy Woy Bowling Club was broken into last month by an intruder who attempted to steal money from the club's poker machines.

Chairman Mr John Gardner said the club was fortunate to survive relatively unscathed.

"Only two weeks before we had altered our closing and security procedures," he said.

"The intruder headed towards the poker machines, but all the note acceptors had been removed the night before and locked away in the safe.

"We also decided that the machines should be left open to show there were no note acceptors, so there was no necessity to damage the machines.

"His only alternative was to force open the bottom door looking in the bins for coins.

"These days we do not get a lot of coinage, so they didn't get too much."
