Major bowls tournament
The major bowls tournament for the year, zone pennants finals day, was held at Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club on April 29.
Umina was the most successful club on the day having won the grade 4 and grade 1 pennant titles.
At the conclusion of the Pennant, Sectional and Post Sectional seasons, Uminas grade 4 lawn bowls team came out on top.
In a very tight encounter, they defeated Woy Woy 49-48, clinching the title with a late charge in the last three ends.
The grade 4 Umina champions are K. Cameron, A. Street, S.Stead, W. Gralton, M. Gallacher, R. Powell, T. Harris, C. Cross, J. Foster, G. Davidson, D. Glackin, B. Hicks and manager, J. Young.
In grade 1, Umina staged a comeback to defeat Halekulani 58-56 after having been as much as 19 behind.
In the last few ends, Halekulani lost 11 shots.
The Umina grade 1 champions are: A. Walsh, T. Hobbs, C. Passfield, M. Lane, P. Irwin, L. Morrison, C. McLean, M. Perovic, I. Street, B. Burrows, L Adamson and C. Robinson.
Complete results for the District Pennant zone finals held at Ettalong Beach Memorial Bowling Club were: Grade 1 Umina 58 def Halekulani 56; Grade 2 Terrigal 67 def Bateau Bay 59; Grade 3 Wamberal 59 def Munmorah 49; Grade 4 Umina 49 def Woy Woy 48; Grade 5 Munmorah 63 def Gwandalan 51; Grade 6 Davistown 60 def Norah Head 54, and; Grade 7 Gosford 56 def The Entrance 46.
All teams played a total of 63 ends.
In other bowls news, the Woy Woy Bowling Club Triples Championship was won by Ray Fairleigh, Tom Payne and Neale Jesperson who defeated Ian OReilley, Sid Vandine and G. Kennedy 23-17.
Also at Woy Woy, Avoca Beach's team of Jess Dunn, Margaret White, Marian Stewart and Robin Cox won the 20th annual Woy Woy Ladies Floodlight Fours.
The event attracted 32 teams over four nights.
In Premier League news, Ettalong Memorial Club defeated The Entrance on May 6 to ensure their survival in the premier league next season.
Ettalong won 68-56.
The Ettalong team was Danny McNeilly, Paul Parsons, Terry O'Connor, Peter Bevin, Brett Pritchard and Ray Beazley.
