Keep the waterfront open
Regarding the suggested closing off of The Boulevarde from Brisbane Water Drive (along the waterfront wharf area) and the restructuring of Anderson Park.
There is no doubt that the general public could make far greater use of Anderson Park, especially if the fountain is restored and converted into a children's splash area. This park is in need of re-thinking to make it more inviting and attractive, and to deter the drinkers and drug-users, but please don't close the Boulevarde off from Brisbane Water Drive.
The left hand turn here invites visitors and the public to share and enjoy the essence of Woy Woy which is "The Waterfront".
The improvements can and should be made and still allow access for the many different sections of the community and visitors who regularly use this area.
They include the buses that bring senior groups to the wharf for the ferry trips, the commercial fisherman's trucks coming to use the cold storage facilities, and the cars used by visitors and local families visiting Fisherman's Wharf, Pelican Park, the cafes and fishing from the jetties etc.
The original proposal "dating back several years" spoken of by Cr Bockholt, was drawn up before the most recent commercial improvements were in existence - C Jay's Cafe Restaurant, Watersedge Boutique Motel and Woy Woy Visitor Information Centre.
All of these attract additional visitors and locals to this area. Perhaps some consultation with the business people in the vicinity would be appropriate.
A boardwalk extending from the wharf down beside Brisbane Water Drive to the bridge was also suggested at the time. The public could be invited to comment on this and the possible interest and enjoyment it may bring.
Together with Pelican Park in front of Fisherman's Wharf, this waterfront area is the focal point of family and visitor recreational activity.
Let's have the improvements by all means, but let's make them more accessible and usable for everyone, instead of less.
