Mosaic planned for library forecourt
Woy Woy Library will soon have a mosaic in the forecourt, according to Gosford Council's cultural development officer Jeanine Carter.
The mosaic will be completed as part of the Woy Woy CBD upgrade.
Ms Carter said she had been working with a number of groups on the design of the mosaic.
These included the Woy Woy CBD Committee, the Council's Heritage Committee and individuals who had specific historical knowledge about Woy Woy.
The design of the mosaic will have a 1920s theme, which will be in keeping with the Library.
The design is based on an original leaflet from the 1920s, which is held in the local studies section of Gosford Library.
Other elements from 1920s life in Woy Woy have been added to enhance the historical component.
These included the "Victorious", the longest-serving ferry on Brisbane Waters, and the Riley Brothers Motor Service bus which was active on the Peninsular at this time.
Gosford Council is seeking an expression of interest from local mosaic artists to construct and install the mosaic by the end of July.
All applications must be in writing and be sent to Woy Woy Mosaic Project, PO Box 21, Gosford, by Friday, June 9.
