Woy Woy takes cricket awards
The depth of the Woy Woy Cricket Club was displayed by winning three awards at the presentation of the Gosford and Wyong District Cricket Association awards held at Central Coast Leagues Club on May 13.
Over 360 people attended the presentations.
Jim Martin was rewarded for his solid all-round performances throughout the year winning the sixth grade Player of the Year award.
Martin's 14 innings with the bat, at number six, netted him 413 runs with a top score of 71 and a handy average of 31.77 runs.
Describing himself as a quickish swing bowler, it was Martin's efforts with the ball that really shone.
As Woy Woys strike bowler, Martins 240 overs collected 45 wickets at an excellent rate of 16.98 runs per wicket and best bowling figures of 7/77.
On the presentation night at the halfway point in scoring (before scoring became undisclosed), Martin said that the award was very tight between himself and a number of players from Narara, The Entrance and Kincumber clubs.
Jim finished the year on top with 944 points.
Points were allocated at one point per run, five points per catch and 15 points per wicket.
Woy Woy sixth grade batsman Paul Flindell was not to be left out of the limelight.
As their only century-making batsman, Paul picked up the Best Batsmen title.
From 11 innings he scored 467 runs at an average of 46.70 with a top score of 131.
Woy Woy sixth grade was rewarded for their superior performance by their victory over Kincumber in the sixth grade final.
An allrounder took out the third grade Player of the Year for Woy Woy.
Woy Woys Glen Evans accepted his prize after finishing the year with some impressive figures.
He bowled 188 overs for a return of 29 wickets, at an average of 17.28, amassing 47 maidens and finishing with best bowling figures of 8/34.
