Heather speaks to women's network

The Woy Woy Older Women's Network will hold a session of its Living Skills course led by dedicated community worker, Ms Heather McKenzie.

The meeting will be held on November 3 at the Woy Woy Leagues Club at 10.15am and everyone is welcome.

The subject will be Public Utilities and the Environment and convenor, Ms Enid Harrison, said she encouraged women to ask questions of Heather, who had the subject "at her fingertips".

In her 80s, Heather has been involved in community work on the Peninsula for many years.

She is a member of the South Woy Woy Progress Association, the Combined Progress Association, Brisbane Water Water Testing Committee, Woy Woy CBD Committee, Correa Bay Water Committee, Coastlink and the Peninsula Safer Towns Committee.

She also works voluntarily with the Royal Blind Society.

Heather opened the St Vincent de Paul shop in Brickwharf Rd and managed the shop for three years.

During the 1970s, Heather was instrumental in the establishment of the Peninsula Village Aged Care facility and the Woy Woy Community Nursing Home.

Heather's community work has led her to receive an Australia Day Community Service Award in 1998.

She said she did not see her age as a time for relaxation, but for becoming active in the community.

"Older people aren't helpless," she said.

Morning tea will be provided at the session and a gold coin donation would be appreciated.
