Welcome to edition 20 of Peninsula News.

Wasn't it great to see Peninsula residents turn out in such huge numbers for the Paralympic Torch Relay?

It goes to show what strong community spirit exists here and what could have been done for the Olympic Torch Relay as well, had it included the Peninsula in its thousands of kilometres travelled.

A full report on the relay appears in this edition.

With the Olympics over, the Paralympics well underway and term four also in progress, thoughts are already turning towards Christmas and end-of-year activities.

Unfortunately, at this stage, it appears that three major events that normally take place on the Peninsula at this time of the year will not go ahead this year.

The Oysters Birthday celebration, the Umina Christmas Street Parade and the Follow the Star combined churches Christmas pageant have all been shelved for this year at least, unless some motivated individuals come forward to take these popular projects on.

On the bright side though, the Peninsula Carols at Woy Woy Oval and the New Years Eve Fireworks at Umina Beach are both going ahead with plans to make them even bigger and better than ever.

The Peninsula News is sponsoring the New Year's Eve Family Fireworks Celebration this year and will keep you informed of the exciting activities planned for the night.

A major music festival expected to bring hundreds of people to the area is also planned for late next year.

Watch this space for more detail in future editions.

There are only two more editions of Peninsula News to be published before Christmas.

If you're planning an event and want to promote it, or you have a business that you want to publicise, please let us know.
