Holiday bus service starts

A "Night Owl" holiday season bus service will operate on the Peninsula from now until the end of January.

Member for Peats Ms Marie Andrews said the State Government was contributing $35,000 towards the service which was designed to offer "local residents and visitors a safe travel alternative to drink driving".

"Night Owl buses will operate on Friday and Saturday nights from November to the end of January, including New Year's Eve and the Australia Day weekend," she said.

The service would pick up from Ettalong Beach Memorial Club, Ocean Beach Hotel, Club Umina and Woy Woy Leagues Club, with a drop off at Woy Woy station.

It would depart half hourly from the Ettalong Beach Club between 11.30pm and 3.30am.

The fare will be $2.

Ms Andrews said the Night Owl service is a road safety initiative of Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils supported by the Roads and Traffic Authority, NSW Police, local hotel and club operators, Busways, Red Bus Services, Pound Enterprises Services, Sea FM and Coasters Advertising.

"The late night bus service provides a wise alternative for getting our family, friends and work colleagues home safely at the end of a good night out," Ms Andrews said.

"Late night holiday bus services are one way of reducing the incidence of drink driving and making people aware of the potentially devastating impacts of drink driving.
