Old-fashioned flavour and no tea bags

A new coffee shop has opened in Ettalong offering "old-fashioned flavour, good service, good food and sensible prices".

Jill Harris, proprietor of Lyla's Place in Picnic Parade, moved to Terrigal from Sydney in September and opened for business in October.

This is her first business, but Ms Harris has managed large shopping centres and has a degree in business management.

The shop is named after her mother, Lyla, who always wanted a tea shop.

"We asked the locals what they wanted and this is it," she said.

"An old fashioned coffee shop with table service offering fresh but plain and simple food, cooked on the premises and tea in a pot, not tea bags.

"No fancy fillings, that's what the retirees want," she said.

The business is open seven days and Jill is proud to say that she has bought everything on the Coast and has created five jobs for locals.
