Patchwork business opens

The Peninsula now has its own patchwork and embroidery studio thanks to a long term resident who has turned her hobby into her business.

Owned and operated by Keren Nelson at Empire Bay, the studio trades as House of Patchwork and offers classes in quilt creation, rotary cutting, foundation piecing, applique and hand and machine piecing.

Embroidery classes include standard embroidery, wool, ribbon and stump embroidery, candlewicking and cutwork.

Keren has lived on the Coast for 33 years and has been teaching patchwork for two years and embroidery for 10 years.

"I was taught by my granny when I was a child and have been doing it ever since," she said.

Keren has three grown-up children and is the vocational director of Woy Woy Rotary Club.

She commuted to Sydney for 12 months and decided that she needed an alternative source of income.

"Class sizes are kept small and relaxed and are held morning, noon and night," Keren said.
