Cricket played for Milligan festival

The Woy Woy and Umina Cricket Clubs played in the inaugural match of the Puckoon Cup, named after the comic novel Puckoon by Spike Milligan, on Saturday, October 4.

The clubs were not able to participate in the Walking Backwards parade also on that day, but organisers said that they were happy to participate in a different tribute to the comic legend.

In Puckoon, the protagonists contest the placement of a new boundary line between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.

In the Puckoon Cup, the players competed for a unique trophy lovingly crafted from a piece of heritage railway sleeper, a cricket ball and stumps and other items of a cricketer's accoutrements.

The cup will become a perpetual trophy to be contested each year by the Peninsula's budding test cricketers.
