Golfers play last junior event

Everglades Country Club golfers Luke Johnson and Troy Scott played in their last event as district junior representatives in the regional championships at Charlestown Golf Club on September 10 and 11.

Luke was runner-up in the juniors' championship.

"We are urging all our junior members to play in this year's championships, and as many district junior events as possible, to gain experience in big events," junior development officer Mr Fred Quintrell said.

"With the absence of junior golfers the calibre of Luke Johnson, Troy Scott, Naithan Roberts and Matthew Winner, all members of our successful 2002 Junior Pennant Team, the pennant selectors will be looking at the performances among our junior ranks," Mr Quintrell said.

Eleven juniors played in the Gosford Classic on Sunday, September 7, with Lachlan Baines winning the runner-up trophy in the 13 years boys and Mitchell Ryan winning a nearest the pin trophy.

Four of the juniors played in the Waratah Classic on Sunday, September 14, where Simon Hoyland won the 16 years division with a score of 79 in windy conditions.

The best on the day was 76, recorded in the Colts Division.

Lachlan Baines and Mitchell Ryan have been selected to join the district coaching program and will be sponsored in their tuition with Darren Chivas.
