Mums without Mums meet in Woy Woy

Woy Woy group "Mums without Mums" held its first session on Tuesday, September 16, at Lions Park, Woy Woy.

The group is one of three groups on the Central Coast.

The Woy Woy group covers Pt Clare to Patonga.

It will meet regularly depending on the demands of the group.

Ms Mandi Thomson formed the groups after witnessing how many people living on the Coast were without the support of family living nearby to help raise their children.

Michelle Turner runs the Woy Woy group.

"There are also those who find themselves without mums who are looking for a substitute mum-grandmother figure: someone to share experiences with, have coffee with and go shopping with," she said.

"There are many women isolated in the community and we would like to bring these women together to support and nurture each other through what is an exciting and rewarding time - raising our children."

The group will meet monthly for weekend functions held.

"This will also provide an opportunity for dads to connect with other dads.

She said dads were quite often commuting to Sydney and did not have the opportunity to meet with other dads .

The first group picnic will be held on Sunday, September 28, at 12pm at the park in Greenvale Rd, Green Point.

The monthly events will rotate around the Central Coast.

The Woy Woy group plans to meet each Tuesday at 10am.

The group plans to have a mothers' night to give mothers a rest.

For further information about the group, call Michelle on 4322 8684.
