Development day held for nurses

Brisbane Waters Private Hospital held a professional development forum for local nurses on Tuesday, September 23.

The first forum was entitled "Once a Nurse, Always a Nurse?"

Brisbane Waters nurse educator Michelle Ryan said that it was hoped the forum would be the first of a number of forums for the hospital.

The forum featured three high profile speakers: Health Care Complaints commissioner Ms Amanda Adrian, the College of Nursing's director of education Dr Lorraine Ferguson and the College's project director for continuing professional development, Ms Tracey Osmond.

"Given the worldwide attention to continuing professional development, the focus of this first forum was on how the Australian Nursing Profession should address this need," Ms Ryan said.

"With 40 nurses from the Coast's public and private hospitals attending, we would hope they will lead the way in taking up this challenge and inspire their colleagues to also recognise the vital importance of continuing professional development."
