Noise complaint blows refuge's cover

Residents of a cul-de-sac in Kariong have identified the vicinity of a house operated by the Woy Woy Women's Refuge in complaints about the house.

A petition with nine signatures was submitted to Gosford Council, claiming high noise levels, involving offensive language, "squealing" and loud music from a pool area well after midnight.

The name of the cul-de-sac was published in the Council agenda.

The petitioners also said parking in the cul-de-sac by refuge users had become a problem, limiting the amount of parking available for residents and their visitors and it had become increasingly difficult for the garbage collector to manoeuvre in the cul-de-sac.

The petitioners asked the council to review the operation and management of the refuge and that users of the facility be required to abide by community standards for public behaviour.

The petitioners stated that, until September last year, they had only minimal problems with the refuge.
