High profile bowlers compete
Umina Beach Bowling Club has held the $7000 Peninsula Prestige Pairs, sponsored by Club Umina.
The event attracted high profile bowlers from throughout the State.
They included world class bowler and champion Brett Duperz, current Australian representative Sam Laguzza, State bowler and son team, Anthony and Barry Salter, and past and current State representatives Wayne Lambourne, Brian Morton, and Wayne Turley.
Central Coast representation and zone included John Roberts, Dave Arnoult, Graham Maier, Ray Beazley and John Packham.
The 23-year old "sensation" from Tamworth Joel Burke, who is now representing Umina Beach Bowling Club, also took part.
After five days of competition, four teams were left to fight out the semi finals in front of a large crowd.
In the first semi-final, State rep Wayne Lambourne and brother Greg from Maitland City played against local high profile and zone 15 reps Dave Arnoult and John Packham from The Entrance with victory going to The Entrance pair 11-9.
In the second semi-final, State champions Dennis Harmer and Shane Garvey from Merrylands defeated the Newcastle and Zone reps from the Kahibah Bowling Club, John Roach and Tony Czermak, 10-8, after rain interrupted play and reduced the number of ends played.
The final was a close event with ends changing with each bowl shot for shot and saw a great win for the pair from The Entrance 12-11.
Umina was well represented by teams of John Menzies and Tom Hobbs, Noel Barron and Col Passfield each winning their respected section.
