Ross stars in basketball

Umina's Ross Corbett starred for The Central Coast Power, when the Australian Basketball Association teams had their first hit out on Saturday, March 24.

The women played against the talented NSW Metro U18 Women's side and the men played against the Japanese National Young Men's team who are in Australia preparing for the Youth Championships.

Both teams were victorious, the women winning 79-72 and the men 105-93.

The women's game was a tight struggle, with the best for the Power being Julie Mitchell with 24 points and Michelle Byrne with 15, and some good inside work by Kristy Rankin.

The men's game was fast, open and played in great spirit.

The Power repeatedly opened up a double figure lead but the tenacious Japanese kept coming back.

Ross Corbett of Umina, starred for the Power, coming off the bench to score 28 points; Scott Barnes, Tim Hudson, Levi McFadden and Dwayne Hinkley were also double figure contributors.

Both coaches Scott Balsar and Mark Pittman were pleased with their teams' performances.
