Audrey wins singles

Audrey Tucker has won the Everglades Women's Bowls Club singles championship.

The pairs went to Bev Archer and Merle Thompson (skip) and the triples to Marie McNamme, Claire Stanley and Gwen Hewson (skip).

The fours winners were Bev Archer, Carmel Daniels, Audrey Tucker and Merle Thompson.

Elaine Vincent won the minor singles and Molly Fitzgerald and Gay Jackson the minor pairs.

Everglades juniors Kristy-Lee and Sharon Harper were chosen to play for NSW against Queensland in the second test series at North Haven.

They won both their singles matches, drew as members of the fours, and the team of Kristy and Amy Sheather played faultless bowls to win the pairs 36-24.

Overall, Queensland won by one shot.

The club raised $223 for Red Cross.

Everglades players Merle Thompson (skip), Beverley Archer, Mary Lammi and Claire Stanley won the district fours with Min Rose as a substitute for the semi and final for Claire Stanley.

Long-standing Everglades member Betty Warburton has accepted the invitation to be the new patron of the women’s club.

This follows the passing of former patron Marj Juratowitch.

President Norma Weir and Everglades members have honoured Mrs Claire Stanley with life membership.

Claire has been a member of the club for 20 years, vice president three times, an umpire for 15 years and a coach for eight years.

She has also been secretary and has won several championships and pennants.
