Paralympic torch visits Peninsula
Peninsula residents have the opportunity to take part in the Paralympic torch relay as it passes through the Gosford municipality on Saturday, October 14, and Monday, October 16.
"The torch will travel through Bensville, Empire Bay, Daleys Point, Blackwall, Woy Woy, Umina, Pearl Beach and Patonga," according to mayor Cr Chris Holstein
He said that the Motor Accidents Authority was running a competition which gave people the opportunity to take part in the Paralympic torch relay.
"People have the chance to win one of 300 places in this year's relay. Major prize winners get the opportunity to carry the torch along the arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge."
He said the relay will begin in Canberra on October 5, and will then travel to other capital cities around Australia.
Cr Holstein said people can enter the competition if they are at least 12 years of age before October 1 by telephoning 1900 929 200 or by visiting the website at www.torchrelay.com.au.
Entries must be completed by the deadline on Friday, June 30.
