Signs for cycling ban

Gosford Council has decided to erect signs in the Umina, Ettalong, and Woy Woy shopping areas prohibiting cycling.

Member for Peats, Ms Marie Andrews, has welcomed the decision.

"Arising from a number of concerns expressed by constituents about the new road rules, particularly in relation to footpath cycling, I made representations to the Traffic Committee of Gosford Council seeking an exception to the road rules in four busy shopping centres in the PEATS electorate," she said.

"Those representations were based on the need to protect pedestrians, particularly senior citizens, from the possibility of being knocked down by a cyclist."

Council has now adopted the Traffic Committee's recommendation for the installation of the signposts prohibiting cycling on the footpaths of the CBD areas in Umina, Ettalong and Woy Woy shopping area.

It was anticipated that the signs would be installed "as soon as possible".

(Parking signs approved for the CBDs took 18 months to erect.)
