Jubilee Cross visits Peninsula
The Jubilee Cross came to the Peninsula on Saturday, May 20, travelling via the waterways to the jetty at Woy Woy.
The cross continued to the St John the Baptist Church, where it was received with a fanfare of trumpets.
The arrival of the cross was followed by a community mass.
On Sunday, May 21, at St John the Baptist School, a family mass and picnic was held, followed by an Olympic relay in the presence of the cross.
At 3pm, the Jubilee Cross continued to Patonga where it was received on a barge at the beach.
It was then rested on the sand.
The community prayed and sang for true reconciliation against a backdrop of sand and sea with live music.
On Wednesday, May 24, the cross travelled back to St John the Baptist School where all the students participated in prayers as the cross proceeded around the school's grounds.
The senior students then carried the cross in procession through the streets of Umina and Woy Woy back to the St John the Baptist Church.
A special mass was held at the Scared Heart Church of Umina on Saturday, May 27, to farewell the Jubilee Cross on its return to Sydney.
