Bowls tournaments played

Two of the Coast’s most prestigious and popular bowls tournaments will soon be played on the Peninsula.

Umina’s Kingfisher triples played until June 23 has again attracted a top field while Ettalong’s annual Prestige Fours tournament is filling fast with outstanding sides already entered.

One of Ettalong’s very popular members A.J 'Grumbles' Evans rose to the occasion in a recent match by producing three consecutive touchers on one end, a feat he had never previously accomplished in his long and distinguished career and a feat that will probably never be repeated.

"A.J." in his usual inimitable style let all and sundry know of his achievement.

The only fact he didn’t divulge was that every time he touched the jack his bowls went in one direction and the jack the other.
