Japanese students stay the weekend
Students from Brisbane Water Secondary College's middle school campus at Umina recently hosted 24 students from Japan for a weekend.
The students and their teachers came from three middle schools in the Yorii Maachi area near Tokyo.
These schools also teach students in Years 7 to 9.
After arriving in Sydney on Wednesday, the visitors experienced some of the sights of the city before travelling to Umina for a day in an Australian school on Friday.
A welcome assembly was where the visiting students entertained the locals with song and dance.
This was followed by a visit to the college's farm.
In the kitchens, students shared their cooking secrets from each other's culture with a batch of Anzac biscuits being whipped up by Umina's young chefs.
Outside, the Umina students introduced their new friends to cricket in an entertaining match in which some showed some promising batting skill.
This worked up a considerable hunger that was well satisfied with a barbecue lunch followed by an afternoon's scavenger hunt.
The visiting students then spent the weekend billeted with Umina students and their families.
College principal Mr Pat Lewis said the visit was a wonderful activity for both groups of students and underlined the values of international friendship and understanding being taught in the college.
