Club receives 12km of piping
Everglades Country Club has received roughly 12 kilometres of piping for a new irrigation system.
A plan for the new system was commissioned In February and after three months of surveys, and course inspections, a plan and specifications were received.
Tenders were called and a firm of irrigation consultants was retained to vet the tenders to ensure that they met with specifications and other criteria.
The consultants were also retained to act as project manager for the installation.
Everglades Men's Golf president Mr Ian Elliott said that, through negotiation, significant savings in the cost of sprinklers and other hardware had been made and these savings have enabled the system to be upgraded.
He said he believed that Everglades would have a "state of the art system" when it was fully installed.
The installation process will be one of open trenching.
This will cause some inconvenience and will result in holes being out of play as the work proceeds.
Mr Elliott said this unfortunately could not be avoided.
He said there was a ploughing method of installing the pipes but the additional cost involved in utilising this method could not be justified.
It was intended that during the installation of the system, play will be maintained and whenever possible "temporary holes" will be brought into play to avoid overly long walks between holes.
Mr Elliot said the installation of the system would overcome the difficulties that plagued Everglades throughout the last summer.
Some minor inconvenience over the next three months or so would be nothing compared to the benefits members would reap in the future.
Mr Elliott thanked the board for agreeing to the acquisition of the new system and for their good work over the past few years in having the club in a position to undertake this expenditure.
