Almost a record
Leading local women's amateur golfer, Nikki Garrett, scored 37 points off a scratch handicap in the recent Everglades Pro-Am.
She played one under par on a course that no woman has ever parred in a regular competition round.
As it was not a stroke round and the course was not played at its full length, the score could not be recognised as a course record.
Josie Cadden was runner-up with 35 points and Hien McManus won the scratch with 24 points.
Everglades women continue to succeed at representative level with Barbara Horner winning the District Division Three Brooch.
The Everglades team were runners up to Tuggerah Lakes for the Gwen Thompson Shield. This year's finalists in the Singles Knockout, Heather Hughes and Anita Uptin, started golf together as members of the same clinic run by Darren three years ago.
They produced one of the most exciting finals for years, with Heather the eventual winner on the 18th hole.
The next event was the Death By Chocolate day held in conjunction with the American Foursomes.
All who attended were treated to a slice of chocolate cake donated by Bremen Patisserie of Umina.
All the trophies and raffle prizes were chocolate as well.
Marg Murray and her sister Nerida Hancock from Gosford were the winners and occasional visitor Ros Sheehey, playing with new player Karin Flynn, were runners-up.
Despite early showers, the largest field of 104 starters contested the Club Foursomes Championships with most staying for the presentation of trophies and the dinner afterwards.
The 2004 Foursomes Champions are the new young combination of Julie Paull and Anne Buckham who defeated Patsy Elliott and Cathy Shannon by one shot.
Nett winners in Division 1 were Shirley Daly and Barbara Horner.
Jarna Woodland and Jan Patterson were Division Two Champions and the evergreen combo of Fay Stratton and Narelle Szelid won the nett.
The annual shoot-out final came down to a chip-off between Patsy Elliott and Yvonne Kerkin on the final hole.
Last year Anne Kane wielded the putter with precision from 30 meters off the green to defeat Yvonne.
This year she used the putter herself to put the ball 1.5 meters from the pin only to have Patsy chip it closer and win.
