Hospital to get transition unit

Woy Woy Hospital is to receive more than $3 million from the Federal Government to construct a new 20-bed Transitional Unit

Member for Roberston Mr Jim Lloyd said the funding was part of the new $86 million Pathways Home Initiative, which helped people in their recovery process after a stay in hospital.

"This will greatly increase the number of hospital beds available at Woy Woy Hospital as it will free up acute care beds currently being utilised for those patients who are recovering well from surgery, but not yet ready to return home," he said.

"These transitional beds will be particularly important for elderly patients who may live on their own or may take longer to feel capable of returning home after a major operation.

"In addition, Gosford, Woy Woy and Wyong Hospitals will receive additional Discharge Packages which assist and support older people to return home from hospital.

"Obviously the more assistance that can be provided for elderly patients to return to their own home is beneficial for the patient, their families and the community," Mr Lloyd said.
