Burns carried out
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and the Rural Fire Service recently carried out two hazard reduction burns in Bouddi National Park
The first was conducted on Friday, May 21, and covered about 7.5 hectares to the east of the Scenic Rd between Mt Bouddi Rd and The Maitland Bay Information Centre at Killcare Heights.
The second was conducted on Sunday, May 23, at Hardys Bay and covered about 25 hectares behind Hardys Bay RSL Club.
NPWS area manager and incident controller Mr Alan Henderson said that the operations were part of a series of burns planned by the NPWS as part of the joint annual fuel reduction program with Rural Fire Services, carried out on behalf of the Gosford Bushfire Management Committee.
"The burns were low intensity and carried out under specific weather conditions," Mr Henderson said. Hazard reductions burns were carried out every year in National Parks on the Central Coast to reduce fuel loads and provide property protection during the summer bushfire season, he said.
