National placings for Rebecca

Woy Woy karate student Rebecca Fenton, 25, has won second and third placings as part of a three-woman delegation to the national all-styles tournament in Port Macquarie in March.

She won second place in women's intermediate kata (forms), second place in women's intermediate point sparring, and third place in women's continuous sparring.

"The NAS tournament was really interesting," Rebecca explained.

"Because there were people from all types of martial arts there, not just karate."

In all three events, Rebecca was beaten only by fellow Black Belt Karate Studios students Angela Jones and Rachael Furi.

A fortnight later, on March 22, Rebecca participated in the NSW Karate Championships in Liverpool, where she came first in the senior female over 60kg sparring and second in the senior female kata, with Jones coming first in that event.

Fenton, who started competing in tournaments last year, was ecstatic with her result.

"I've never won a gold medal for anything, ever, and to win my first at a state championship was awesome."
