Computer courses for older people

A series of training courses in information technology for people aged 45 and older has been launched at Ettalong.

Wyong WorkWise manager Mr Mike Burnett said that due to the strong support from the community to participate in the Basic IT Enabling Skills Program (BITES) further courses were planned by Work Wise for their Ettalong and Wyong training centres.

Mr Burnett said that most people attending the courses had been seeking employment but had found employers were demanding that prospective employees have an understanding of basic computer techniques.

This course will give people who are seeking employment and are aged 45 and over in receipt of a Centrelink benefit the computer skills to compete in the job market Mr Burnett said.
